Concrete Driveways in Bothell, WA

Your driveway contributes to your home’s curb appeal as much as your landscaping, siding and porch. We build concrete driveways that are useful as well as attractive.

Concrete driveways that add curb appeal

Your driveway, like your landscaping, shutters, siding and porch, contributes to the curb appeal of your home. A driveway made mostly of dirt or gravel, or one that is cracked and worn, can be an eyesore on a property that is otherwise appealing. At Bothell Concrete Contractor we want your driveway to be useful as well as attractive, and that is where our driveway paving service comes in.

What goes into a driveway that lasts

A driveway carries your cars every day and sits in Western Washington rain for months at a time, so most of the work happens before the concrete arrives:

  • Excavation and base. The old surface and soft soil come out, and a compacted gravel base goes in to give the slab firm, even support.
  • Forms and slope. Forms set the shape and height of the driveway, with enough slope to carry rainwater away from your garage and house.
  • Reinforcement. Steel reinforcement goes in where the design calls for it, to help hold the slab together.
  • Pour and finish. The concrete is placed, leveled and finished, and control joints are cut so any cracking stays in straight lines.
  • Curing. The new slab is kept off-limits to cars until it is strong enough to drive on.

Choose your driveway finish

A broom finish is the classic choice: fine ridges give tires and shoes good grip in the rain. Exposed aggregate shows off the natural stones in the mix and hides dirt well. Stamped and colored concrete gives a driveway the look of stone, slate or brick. See stamped and decorative concrete for more ideas.

Replacing a cracked driveway?

If your current concrete driveway is badly cracked or broken up, we can remove it and pour a new one. Read about driveway replacement, or call (425) 230-3189 to talk it through.

The finish decides how your concrete looks, how much grip it has in the rain and how much upkeep it needs. We help you choose during your free consultation.

Finish 01 / 04

Broom finish

A stiff broom is pulled across the fresh concrete to leave fine, even ridges. It is the classic finish for driveways and walkways because the texture gives tires and shoes good grip in the rain, and it is simple to keep clean.

Best for
Driveways, walkways, side paths
Grip when wet
Good
Upkeep
Low

Finish 02 / 04

Exposed aggregate

The thin top layer of cement paste is washed off before the concrete hardens, revealing the rounded stones in the mix. The pebbled surface has a natural, rugged look, plenty of texture underfoot and hides dirt and wear well.

Best for
Driveways, patios, walkways
Grip when wet
Very good
Upkeep
Low; a sealer keeps the stones bright

Finish 03 / 04

Stamped & colored concrete

Patterns are pressed into the fresh concrete and color is added, so the slab takes on the look of stone, slate, rock or brick without the cost of the real thing. A sealer brings out the color and protects the surface.

Best for
Patios, front walks, driveways
Grip when wet
Ask for an anti-slip additive in the sealer
Upkeep
Reseal every few years

Finish 04 / 04

Brick trim & borders

Blending brick trim with concrete creates a look that is all your own. A brick border or band frames a patio or walkway, ties it to the house and breaks up a large slab.

Best for
Patio edges, walkway borders
Pairs with
Broom, stamped or colored concrete
Upkeep
Low

FAQ

Concrete Driveways questions

Can’t find your answer? Call (425) 230-3189, Monday to Saturday, 7 AM to 7 PM.

How thick should a concrete driveway be?

Most home driveways are poured 4 to 6 inches thick. Heavier vehicles, like RVs or work trucks, call for a thicker slab and more reinforcement. We recommend the right thickness for your driveway during the free consultation.

How soon can I drive on a new concrete driveway?

You can usually walk on it after a day or two, but cars should stay off for about a week while the concrete cures. It keeps gaining strength for about a month. We tell you exactly when your driveway is ready.

Can you replace a gravel driveway with concrete?

Yes. The gravel and soft soil are dug out, a compacted base goes in, and the new driveway is formed and poured. It is one of the biggest curb appeal upgrades you can make.

How much does a concrete driveway cost?

Every driveway is different. The size, the slope, any old surface that has to come out and the finish you choose all affect the price. We give you a quote after a free consultation: call (425) 230-3189.
